From physical verification using manual processes by security guards leading to multiple breaches, such as people movement (entry/exit procedures), tampering of ID cards and laptop movement were able to move to standardization of access control using standardized physical access process hence reports / audit trails were standardized all across, two factor authentication using physical means (smart cards and biometrics), automation of access control procedures for logical and physical access, ease of representation of audit data for external and internal reviews.
Convergence has led to process improvement and automation, thereby reducing costs of internal and external audits, decreasing dependence on physical verification through security guards, and a demonstrating physical access control in accordance to BS 7799 guidelines and certification for the same, leading to better assurance capabilities and increased business.
People developed multiple competencies, helping to unify process for all employees for physical access control/entry-exit report at premises and planned logical authentication using digital certificates, support for multiple application like canteen payments as a cash card, usage of smart card as fingerprint device, standardized process for laptop tracking.
