R. Scott McCoy was recently certified as a CISSP and has become the director of enterprise security at one of the nation’s top-ranked utility company, Xcel Energy Corporation, based out of Minneapolis, MN. At Xcel Energy, Scott combines traditional security with IT security functions and business continuity. He oversees and directs security programs and security efforts across the country, including information security, disaster recovery, personnel data, communications, intellectual and physical security, and crisis management.  He also oversees the design and implementation of preventive security standards, procedures, employee education and programs.  He has headed up and assisted in the development of the new US government utility regulations as they pertains to NERC and FERC standards and guidelines. He leads the industry in innovative strategies, ensuring compliance in security policies and gathering key metrics to demonstrate compliance.

Scott earned a master’s degree, the CPP designation and other certifications all before his recent 40th birthday.  He has accomplished more than others in his field wish they could do!  I am proud to nominate R. Scott McCoy for this award.
