As featured in the June 2006 issue of Security Management, Denni Kraft (systems coordinator), Ron Reamer (information systems manager) and Paul Schofield (senior police officer) of Michigan State University’s Department of Police (DOP) contribute to outstanding enterprise security management. These ASIS members and DOP employees each have made significant leadership contributions to the ongoing identification and prioritization of assets and vulnerabilities, and the enhancement of design, facilities, processes and systems at MSU.
Additionally, their participation and support in ASIS-Lansing activities have been invaluable for reestablishing a vital chapter. They facilitate DOP’s hosting of monthly chapter meetings that provide educational and networking opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students, as well as regional professionals.
The support of these dedicated professionals and the MSU DOP was instrumental in the success of the first annual local AESRM seminar, Fundamental Forensics for Auditors and Information Security Specialists, in Lansing, Michigan, in April 2006. The event was well attended by information security and law enforcements professionals, as well as graduate students. Through these members, the DOP sponsored three free seats for local and state law enforcement personnel. The event was partially sponsored by MSU’s CyberSecurity initiative, a strong indication of the community building demonstrated by these exceptional professionals.
Through their work in systems, access control and management, each contributes to significant cost savings through enhancing performance of security personnel and equipment and the strategic implementation of integrative strategies (such as combining life safety, energy control and access control systems) during systematic maintenance and upgrade of campus facilities.
